WHO'S HOT
The Green Bay Packers would be envious of this. Not only are the Giants third in the NFL with 30 sacks, but 26 (86.6%) have come from the defensive line. With numbers like that, the Giants rarely have to blitz. Here are the sack totals for their very valuable linemen: Justin Tuck (8.5), Mathias Kiwanuka (6.5), Fred Robbins (5.5), Dave Tollefson (3.5) and Barry Cofield (2).
WHO'S NOT
It wasn't long ago that Ben Roethlisberger was among the top quarterbacks in the league and was in the Most Valuable Player discussion. Not so much anymore. In his past three games, Roethlisberger has completed 54% of his passes and thrown one touchdown against eight interceptions for a rating of 37.5. In his first eight games, he was completing 63% of his throws with nine touchdowns and three interceptions for a 98.1 rating. Like Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, Roethlisberger has not practiced much since injuring his throwing shoulder in the opener. That will change, he said. "I'm practicing . . . every day unless something happens to me," Roethlisberger said. "It always helps when you're out there doing stuff and guys can hear your voice and see the ball come out of your hand. I think it'll help out a lot."
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Bills quarterback Trent Edwards has been spending extra time working on his mechanics after three-straight subpar games, including last Sunday's 120-yard performance against New England. Coincidentally the Bills have lost three straight to fall off the pace in the AFC East. "I was out there working on my footwork after practice, throwing some extra routes just to get back to what I need to get back to," Edwards said. "That's part of the position. It's my job to perform at a high level at the quarterback (position). The mechanics are a big reason why you can or can't perform at a high level." In his first six games, Edwards went 106 of 152 for 1,209 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. In his past three, Edwards has gone 58 of 93 for 636 yards with two TDs, five interceptions, two lost fumbles and has given up a safety.
BY THE NUMBERS
12-0 Record of the Steelers in the regular season at home against the San Diego Chargers.
0-2 Steelers' record against the Chargers in the postseason. The losses came in the 1994 AFC Championship Game and Terry Bradshaw's last playoff appearance after the strike season of 1982.
0 Sacks the offensive line of the Atlanta Falcons has given up in the past four games. After giving up 47 sacks last season, the unit has allowed just 12 this year. They are on pace to give up 21 sacks, more than a 50% reduction.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Baltimore Ravens (6-3) at New York Giants (8-1): The Giants certainly look the part of a defending Super Bowl champion that is tough on both sides of the ball. We'll find out how physical they are, at least offensively, when their top-ranked rushing offense takes on Ray Lewis and the Ravens' No. 1 rush defense. This will also be a test for Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco. He has struggled at times against good pressure and not many teams are better at getting after the quarterback than the Giants.
