\ DAN POMPEI FOR THE MAJORITY

They, too, shall pass

If the Bears have made Brian Griese, Gus Frerotte, Dan Orlovsky and Kerry Collins look like Aaron Rodgers, they may make Aaron Rodgers look like Johnny Unitas.

Rodgers is a fine passer, and the Bears and their 30th-ranked passing defense are capable of making him look finer still. His passer rating of 93.3 is higher than the rating of any quarterback the Bears have played up to this point.

What's more, he is blessed with a multitude of fine receivers to throw to, and his coach, Mike McCarthy, is one of the most aggressive and challenging play callers in the business. This passing game mismatch likely will doom the Bears, despite Lovie's Lambeau magic.

The Bears' only chance would be to run the ball well consistently and control the clock. Then they would need to turn up the pass rush heat on the other side of the ball.

The Packers' pass protection is vulnerable, having surrendered eight sacks in two games, but the Bears' pass rush is suspect with one sack for every 23 drop backs.

\ MIKE DOWNEY FOR THE MINORITY

Lovie, Bears love Lambeau

The temperature will be in the 20s. The score won't be.

Don't be fooled by the Bears and Packers averaging 26 points apiece per game. You won't see many Lambeau Field touchdown leaps.

Nor will you see your team win, Packer backers, and here's why:

* Lovie Smith has never lost at Lambeau. (He is 4-0 and as Lombardi lovers know, winning is the only thing.)

* It hasn't even been very close. (None of those four games was closer than seven points.)

* Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett won't play. Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher is overdue to play great.

* Green Bay's defense is 30th in the NFL in run defense. Matt Forte, enjoy.

* Doesn't matter if Kyle Orton can or can't go. Rex Grossman also has never lost a game in Green Bay.

By the way, who quarterbacks the Packers now?
