A GIANT SIX-CESS - PRO BOWL WILL BE SHADED BIG BLUE
The Giants may be slumping a bit down the stretch of the season, but they are soaring as far as recognition. A year after managing just one Pro Bowl selection - a fact they used as motivation during their Super Bowl run - the Giants this year will send six players to the Pro Bowl, including Eli Manning and two members of his offensive line, guard Chris Snee and center Shaun O'Hara.

The other players to earn selection into the Feb. 8 Pro Bowl are defensive end Justin Tuck and the two old war-horse specialists, punter Jeff Feagles and kicker John Carney. It's the largest Giants Pro Bowl contingent since they sent seven players from their 1990 Super Bowl championship team.

Snee, Tuck, Carney and Feagles were selected as starters to the NFC squad. It is the first Pro Bowl selection for Manning, Snee, O'Hara and Tuck. Carney's 14 years between Pro Bowl appearances is the longest in NFL history. Feagles went 13 years between appearances. They are the oldest teammates in NFL history. Carney at 44 is the oldest player in the league; Feagles is 42.

"I was speaking with Jeff earlier today and I thought there was an age limit on all-star games," Carney said.

Clearly, the Giants rolling to an 11-1 record and clinching the NFC East so early did not go unnoticed among fans, players and coaches, who all vote for the Pro Bowl. They won the Super Bowl last season despite only defensive end Osi Umenyiora named to the NFC team. Umenyiora went down for the season with a knee injury during the summer.

"In my opinion, all five of us were deserving of the honor," Snee said of the offensive line. "But it will be nice to have Shaun there and hopefully the other guys will tag along, too."

Four Giants are first alternates and could get in if someone on the team cannot play in the game: LB Chase Blackburn for special teams, tight end Kevin Boss, fullback Madison Hedgecock and linebacker Antonio Pierce. Defensive tackle Fred Robbins is a second alternate and left tackle David Diehl and running back Brandon Jacobs are third alternates.

Manning will get to hang out in Honolulu with big brother Peyton, who was selected to the AFC squad.

"Peyton has invited me before," Manning said, "but I wanted to go when I made it on my own."
