Mike McCarthy Concerned About Ryan Grant, Disappointed in Brett Favre Situation

Apparently, when it comes to the Green Bay Packers, there are stories other than Brett Favre. Who knew? After Favre had “announced his retirement” in March, the team’s two biggest issues were how Aaron Rodgers would handle the full-time job, and whether running back Ryan Grant would get that new deal he was angling for before training camp.

The jury’s still out on Rodgers, but Grant is still without a contract extension, which means he’s not in training camp. And this is a problem for head coach Mike McCarthy: “I am concerned because missing OTAs was a lot different than missing training camp practices. I know both sides are working diligently to get this matter resolved. I hope we do that in a short timeframe….I’m hopeful we’ll get this resolved soon.” Grant is a big part of the offense and will be relied on to take some of the pressure off Rodgers (assuming, of course, he wins the job.) As for Favre, who’s allegedly showing up for Packers training camp, McCarthy had this to say about the whole bizarre (but in a totally predictable way) ordeal: “Well, it has gone on so long for me personally I can’t really recall if I was surprised,” McCarthy said. “But the way it has gone has been disappointing, I’ll say that. You can say that is a surprise.” Translation: Favre is a selfish jerk.* Now, instead of focusing on trying to build on last year’s 13-win season, the organization has to deal with the manufactured after-school drama that seemingly follows Favre everywhere he goes. Nah, this won’t end badly.
