This is Condrew Allen, a rookie Green Bay Packers cornerback who may never play in the NFL, but who will always be the answer to a trivia question: He’s the guy who was taken off the active roster today, to make room for the addition of Brett Favre.
When Favre was formally reinstated to the Packers, the team needed to get rid of another player to keep their roster at the 80-man limit. Allen, who suffered what was described as a bruised knee over the weekend, was the odd man out. At least he got placed on injured reserve, which means he’ll get his full 2008 base salary.
Allen signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in May, after a career at Portland State in which he was a standout special teams player. He’ll get his chance to make an NFL roster some day, but he’ll have to wait at least another year.
