Filed under: PackersFor those who don’t recall the story of Brooks from , here’s a refresher:
Brooks, played by the great James Whitmore, became so accustomed to life in prison that when he was finally released, he couldn’t cope.
On NFL Network today, Jamie Dukes said Brett Favre is like that, and that’s why he simply can’t bring himself to retire from football: Favre has spent his entire life in the game, and he just can’t bear the thought of life away from it.
I certainly don’t think Dukes was suggesting that Favre is going to meet the same end as Brooks, but I do think he has an interesting point to make: Favre’s life has, for three decades or so, revolved around football, adjusting to
life outside the game. A lot of people have a tough time adjusting to retirement, and looking at the way Favre is making that adjustment, it’s hard not to feel sorry for him.
