The Green Bay Packers are so intent on keeping one of the greatest and most popular players in franchise history away that they’re now offering him a fortune not to end his retirement.
WTMJ-TV Channel 4 in Milwaukee reported Wednesday that Packers president Mark Murphy, who met with Brett Favre and his agent yesterday, said the Packers would pay Favre $20 million over 10 years to remain retired.
The way such a contract would work, most likely, is that Favre would re-affirm his retirement and then say that he had signed on to be an ambassador for the team, appearing at a few events, signing a few autographs, and staying out of the way of the football team. Not bad work, and not a bad salary, at $2 million a year.
Unless you don’t want the job because you want to keep playing football, which is the case with Favre. Favre wants to play football, and $20 million won’t be enough to convince him not to.
