Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com is a well respected NFL columnist with a lot of contacts in the league, so when I saw the headline saying, “Alex Marvez will be shocked if Brett Favre doesn’t join the Bucs by Sunday,” it got my attention.
I then watched the video where Marvez discussed a potential Packers-Buccaneers trade for Favre, and although I do think a trade is possible, I’m not convinced that it’s imminent, and I’m not sure that the Buccaneers really are the leading candidates.
To me, the key issue is that the Packers will want to drag their feet about this as long as possible, because they hope Favre will change his mind (again) and decide to stay retired. They also hope that if Favre is going to push the issue, they can hold off until later into the preseason, when a team with a quarterback injury might be convinced to give up a first-round pick for Favre. I will be shocked if Brett Favre does join the Bucs by Sunday.
