Yesterday’s accusations from FOX’s Jay Glazer about Brett Favre providing information to the Lions about the Packers offense were, naturally, a big story. Favre’s reputation as Green Bay’s golden boy was tarnished by his comeback shenanigans but, if true, would rate him somewhere below Lynn Dickey on the list of all-time Packer favorites.
Favre denied the accusations via one of his biggest admirers Peter King. He relayed the information on NBC last night and shared Favre’s text message in his column on this morning.
“Total bs … not true and pretty ridiculous. I’m telling you it’s not true. What the hell is their [FOX’s] problem?”
The Lions COO Tom Lewand also denied the report but, in a move that could be interpreted many different ways, coach Rod Marinelli declined to comment.
Perhaps Marinelli didn’t want to admit it, his team still got routed by the Packers, but more damning fuel comes from Jason Wilde of the .
Two league sources said Sunday they had been told of Favre contacting the Lions last month, before Glazer’s report. One said the report was “absolutely” true.
Given the way Favre’s departure from Green Bay was covered, it’s a safe bet that this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing on this story. More denials and more accusations will follow but the only thing for sure at this point is that Favre should be spending more time helping fix the Jets offense than teaching other teams about the Packers.
